Connor Visagie bought us his 2009 Pontiac G8 in for some performance upgrades and a Custom Re-Flash.
We thought it was an interesting vehicle so thought we’d share our experiences.
This was our first time tuning the 3.6L “AlloyTec” V6 and we found the HPTuners support somewhat lacking. This is a rather unique vehicle in North America as it uses a Bosch Engine Management system more often found in the VAG (VW Audi Group) than in a Domestic.
Connor already had a full cat-back system along with a K&N intake system – his car was otherwise stock and we put down solid baseline numbers of 215 WHP and 205 WTQ
Will at Overkill Motorsports (http://www.getoverkilled.ca/) has put together an upgrade package consisting of both Larger Mass Air Flow Sensor and Throttle Body (76mm). He also supplied Connor with a very comprehensive reflash tune and we we’re able to use that as a basis for our custom flash.
We found that for this particular vehicle the Overkill ignition timing advance was too aggressive. This caused some power reduction via the PCM’s Knock Retard function. We we’re able re-tune the calibration to avoid any aggressive knock retard and also re-scale the MAF tables to suit this Connor’s application more precisely.
Overall the package works very well and with a few tweaks here and there we’re making more HP and More Torque from 4000RPM all the way until Redline.
Our final numbers we’re 232WHP / 208WTQ ( + 17 HP / 3 TQ)
